Outlet in bathroom, 6' from tub or sink, GFCI outlet at vanity. Does current code require a GFCI protecion at this outlet as well?

If it's in the bathroom, under the present code, it needs GFCI protected.

did you try testing it, could be on the same circuit as the vanity gfci

Chad is likely right, except that is an old two prong receptacle.
GFI's were not even invented yet when that sucker was installed. |
