Are electrical plugs allowed over a mantle of a wood burning fireplace.

Short answer is yes, they are permitted.

Some manufacturers of heating equipment that may be installed in fireplaces may have prohibitions against over-mantle receptacles.

One or two mantle receptacles are very common.

lol....in a time long ago many put them over the mantle for clocks. Sure they are allowed but only for a specific use...in other words they are not their because of a layout space or span requirement.
