I am trying to detrmine when exactly GFCI protection became code for bathrooms; My earliest edition of the NEC goes back to 1981; I have been informed GFCI for bathrooms goes back to the 70's.

Remember...their is a difference between a GFI and GFCI classification guys....GFI ( 60-70 ma )protects equipment and the like....GFCI ( 4-6ma or 5ma nominal ) protects human life.
