Default GFCI trips but stays powered

I see this form time to time and wonder how others write this up.

I wrote this.

A Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter protected outlet will not trip. This condition should be corrected by an electrician

The GFCI receptacle is defective or mis-wired and should be serviced by a qualified electrician.

Wow, short and sweet Jeff. Much better than my mangled narrative.

One GFCI(Ground Fault Circuit Interupter) outlet works even when tripped, which is currently not a true GFCI outlet. This is a safety issue that needs to be corrected. A qualified licensed electrical contractor should correct as needed.

A little long winded, but having the word safety included gives the client an idea as to the seriousness of the needed repair.

Newer GFI's will not reset if wired improperly or if the protection circuitry has been lost.
