There is another similar violation people seem to ignore. In the main panel you have a neutral bus bar, connected to the grounded service conductor or connected to that bus bar with the factory strap but you can also have other auxillary bus bars screwed directly to the enclosure. Those bus bars are ONLY for the grounding conductors. If you connect a neutral to one of these it is a 250.6 violation since you are sending branch circuit current through the main bonding jumper. Even in the main panel where the service disconnect resides, all ground busses are not the same.

Ahh....I thought you were talking about a specific image. yes, I agree it is VERY important to know how the busses are connected within the panel.
This would be MORE so a problem in a "Remote Distribution Panel" when done incorrectly. Paul W. Abernathy |

Peter,
I will see...but just think of it this way.....like a normal remote distribution panel with a seperate isolated " Grounded " neutral buss bar and then a jumper to the panel....all along you had a grounding buss bar already attached to the panel....kinda defeats the isolation of the grounded buss bar part... Did anyone notice in my original post i used the title " grounding (Neutral ) conductor terminals"...so wrong..lol...I should have said " Grounded ( Neutral ) conductor terminals" Amazed I was not caught on that.... Thanks Paul .
Just went down and looked at my Panel and found two spots were the ground and neutral are together on the buss bar. Should I remove and separate them ? I have installed a few breakers before. |

Well.....You can but do this for me FIRST......CLICK off your MAIN breaker ( and understand the wires coming IN are still LIVE ) ahead of time just to be safe and GO FOR IT.....just make sure you have your torque wrench handy
