Does any one know when the manufacturers started using different colors on the casing of "Romex" wires - I know it has been several years, but don't know the exact date - ie. white- 14awg, yellow- 12 awg, etc.

That last sentence in the reference is why you can never be 100% sure just by looking at the color - white Romex of many sizes is commonly found in installations.
