Up here, when you want to upgrade your service, many localities require all exposed K&T in the basement removed. So junction boxes to the walls, and feed by romex.

Considering the intentions of K&T, just for lighting, and seeing bootleg circuits, three prongs with the EG wrapped around a radiator. K&T doesn't kill people, stupid people kill people.
