Default Lateral Grounding Question
if a home has a lateral electric service, does it need a grounding rod

ALL services require a grounding electrode. Most require more than one.

The quick answer is yes.

the longer answer is that it may use something other than a rod, such as an Ufer ground encased in the slab.
