Progress Lighting Recalls Ceiling-Mounted Indoor Light Fixtures; Lights Can Fall Posing an Impact Hazard

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Indoor Ceiling Light Fixtures

Units: About 7,500

Importer: Progress Lighting, of Greenville, S.C.

Hazard: A cable that supports the light fixture from the ceiling can fail, causing the fixture to fall and injure nearby consumers.

Incidents/Injuries: Progress Lighting has received five reports of fixtures falling, including a report of an incident where two consumers suffered bruises.

Description: The recall involves the International Series indoor (foyer) light fixtures. The light fixture has metal hardware and frosted white glass. The fixtures use either incandescent or fluorescent bulbs. "Made in/Hecho en/Fabrique aux China" and the model number are written on the packaging and inside the fixture's canopy, which is attached to the ceiling. Model numbers involved are:

The fixtures were also sold under the Thomasville Lighting brand name.

Sold by: Electrical/lighting distributors and The Home Depot stores nationwide from January 2005 through March 2008 for between $290 and $1,150.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Consumers who have either Progress Lighting's or Thomasville Lighting's recalled ceiling lights should carefully remove any of the glass, and contact Progress Lighting to schedule a free inspection and replacement.

And immobilize our society with their huge demand for oil and gas. I was out in Alpine yesterday where one gas station was 4.999, 5.299, and 5.499, and, get this, $6.999 for diesel! And that was at the cheap station where I used to fill up every time I went to Alpine. I would have stopped and taken a picture, but I was rolling down the hill to get better gas mileage and didn't want to break my momentum.

There were no cars in the parking lot at The Bread Basket (I found a parking space right in front of the restaurant!) and no line (I walked right up to the counter and got my jalapeno bread!), and there seemed to be no one except me driving on the street—the emptiest I've ever seen Alpine during tourist season (May-September). Not even a Zonie license plate; even they are staying put in Arizona (spending what money they have left on air conditioning, I guess).

I'd kinda like the Chinese competing for gas and oil in the free market and building society built on Capitalism.

The other possibility is much less desirable.

They've been demanding for almost 30 years now and their government just clamps down harder. "Hey, we've got a billion people here. A few murders and disappearances here and there won't affect us any!"

I think the Olympics was the wrong choice for them, though, if their intent is to keep one billion people imprisoned, both physically and intellectually.

Did you read the news item warning foreigners that their laptop computers, cell phones, etc., could be subject to purposeful interruption/damage/viruses/etc. by the Chinese government while in their country? Hmmmmmmmm. I love television! Instant replays, commentary, nachos, margaritas....
