Default Main Disconnect Manufactured Home

We did a manufactured home, the main disconnect at the pole next to meter was a 100 amp, inside the unit the main disconnect at the sub-panel was rated 150 amp. Is this a problem?

Default Re: Main Disconnect Manufactured Home

Don,

Important question...are you speaking of a Mobile Home/Manufactured Home or a manufacturered home with a anchoring foundation system.....? Well that will get too deep as NEC observes manufacturered homes as same as mobile homes unless they are anchored...in which case the panel can then be on or within the manufactured home....anyway sorry I got too technical....I REALLY have to watch that....

When it comes to the service equipment and so on Art 550.32 (A) and (B)....explains some of it....

But if you are just asking can you have a 100A Main OCPD Service Disconnect feeding a 150A Main-breaker included sub-panel ...sure....as the 100A Service Disconnect protects the entire system and service feeders associated with it.

BUT remember services conductors are sized based on 125% of the Cont. Load and 100% of the none Cont. Load.......

So while in theory the 100A breaker can function as the main disconnect and protect the system......you have to question is the load within the manufacturered home calculated right....

OCPD's shall be size no smaller than 125% of the continious load.....without knowing what is involved in the setup....can't tell you if everything is sized right....

But again if the questions is can a 100A OCPD protect a panel that has a 150A OCPD device in it...Yes....the system will be rated at 100A........

DANG...that got cryptic.....so much easier to explain in class...lol
