Good for you.
I did, and that's what I find really funny here in Southern California. People have the opportunity to make money--to work--but they don't want to.

Plumbers here are the same way: "Oh, there's nothing wrong with PB." They won't put it in writing, though, and once they are called on that statement, they'll "gladly" provide a free estimate for re-piping the house.

Waaaaaaay too many people would rather sit around all day, making no money by actually working, and then complain about the cost of invading foreign countries, the cost of gasoline, the cost of food, etc. Well, get out there and work! I just find it unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. The desire to work and help people is lacking in so many areas, and I haven't a clue how to help except to keep pushing them.

Replacing the panel is the cheaper option over testing, but about 1/4, when talking about residential panelboards and breakers. I think that electrician made the right call, given the caveats.
My wise old grandmother taught me to back up my words in writing and then to stand behind them. That I do. Consequently, I think others should, as well. If they choose not to, I'm going to go to bat for my Clients. I might strike out, but I do get three strikes. So do they.

Sounds like your Grandma invented CYA.

She sure did talk a lot, didn't she? My grandma just made good potato bread.

RR
The reason many people do not wish to work is partly the 9-5 mentality and feeling of hopelessness.
We have it drilled into our heads , that everything in life is inevitable.
I never buy lottery tickets yet see lines of others , who can't wait to buy them.
Their life is luck of the draw, yet as bad as they would like to win they expect to lose.
When I was youger I would pick up dis carded tickets and find winners, which proves the mind st of those expecting nothing good.
You will see what you expect to see.

In a past era more than 10 years ago I added more of them to my pushmatic panel. I will leave it up to electricians with the proper credentials and license or to inspectors with more experience than me to debate the mechanical & safetey issues. I do however know that today (as well as the 10 years ago when I tried to find my additional breakers) you can not run to ACE, LOWES, MENARDS, TRUE VALUE or HOME DEPOT to find these breakers. If you can not readily find stores that sell them when you might quickly need one they should be concidered "obsolete". I would not want to have to order them and wait for a delivery in time of need. As for me, I now have some spares ready for the quick emergency replacement. Our clients may not!

I wouldn't expect them to either. Their electricians will, however.

Do you guys suppose I could convince you to start condemning some of the other obsolete brands? Put Westinghouse, Arrow-Hart, ITE, Goulds, Crouse Hinds, Thomas and Betts, Wadsworth, and Frank Adams on your list too. None of them make breakers under their own name anymore either. That would be great. My accountant thanks you.

I don't know if she invented it, but she came from a monster-sized Catholic Bohemian/German family, so she was constantly having to fight it out with siblings.

Yes she did, but she did her best talking while making cinnamon rolls, pumpkin pie, and roast beef. I do miss good ol' fashioned home cooking.

I don't "condemn" them, the electricians here do. I have never run into Goulds, Thomas and Betts, Wadsworth, and Frank Adams electric panels. I look forward to the day I do. Until then....
