Re: Is Romex in a crawl space a problem?
I don't disagree Steve,
But I'd like to say that I have very good feelings about some of my experiences with people in both home depot and Lowes.
I was an electrical engineer for 30 years and about three years ago began a new career refurbishing an old apartment building. So I need help sometimes. Some of the advice I have received from these stores has been extremely useful and greatly appreciated.
In the case of this guy, I spent about 20 minutes with him and was fairly certain that he was a knowledgeable individual. He was sure that as a practical matter that using Romex in the way I proposed was acceptable, but I was looking for more than acceptable I wanted to, as much as possible, do things in compliance with code. On the issue of Romex in the crawl space and code he just wasn't sure and explained that to me.
The thing I really dislike are the pseudo experts that they have in those stores that can't admit that they don't know something and attempt to answer you with some BS story or worse by reading the package to you. I tend to be rude in those situations and just tell the person that I was looking for somebody that knew something about the subject and they aren't it.
As an aside, far and away the greatest improvement in my knowledge and skill levels has come from the times that I have worked along side a professional or have observed a professional. In the trades there just seems to be no substitute for learning from experienced people.
