On a 15amp circuit with a computer up and running, when a 12amp vacuum cleaner is turned on the computer looses power and restarts. This is on a 1 year old home. I know that when starting the vacuum the amp draw is greater than 12 amps but if the circuit is overloaded would the breaker trip?

Circuits not overloaded.
You're causing the neutral-line voltage in the outlet to drop temporarily. Not a big deal for most things, but computers don't like it. Put your computer on a UPS and no more problem. the breaker won't trip because the overload is of a very short duration, there is time delay built into the breaker.
You should put the PC on a UPS to prevent this. |
