Saw this one today. This is an oil fired downdraft hot air furnace. The house is a slab construction with the supply ducts running in the slab. Built in 1958.
The picture shows (if I can get it to load) the return air intake on the top of the furnace, 6" from the barometric draft damper opening. Anyone think that this might be too close?! Last edited by ngifford; 2/17/06 at 8:31 PM.. |

Most certainly. . .
IF YOUR INSPECTOR IS NOT USING THERMAL IMAGING, YOU'RE NOT GETTING THE WHOLE PICTURE ® Jeff PopeJPI Home Inspection Service Santa Clarita CA (661) 212-0738 Santa Clarita Home Inspection http://www.MyInspector.net |

If I remember right, any return air in the same room within 10' of the furnace is too close.

Absolutely wrong...and dangerous!!
The return should never be in the same closet with the barometric or draft diverter. "not just an inspection, but an education" www.homesweethomecincinnati.com Democracy is two wolves and a lamb. Liberty is a well-armed lamb. B. Franklin |
