Do you just not like amp meters or do they just not sell them in your neck of the woods
Charley,

I have one but rarely use it.

Actually that is not true, I used it once to find out how much it cost to operate my swimming pool pump motor and furnace ventilation fan.

Shortly afterward, I bought a timer for the pool and turned the furnace ventilation fan to auto. It paid for my meter many times over.

Now it all starts to make sense Mr.Bottger.
Jim said his sense of taste is gone and his tongue is afoul and black when I got the chance to see it when he is talking.
He said he never uses clamp meters when doing are amp meter drop test.
He Likes the lick test. Says it is more accurate, but he can only do 1 a day.
HA HA HA HA.

I never tested furnace elements but a faster way to verify elements would be to use an OHM meter. OHM’s meter needle don’t move, element needs replacement…

Myself, I turn up the thermostat and put my hand over the register to confirm they are working…

Cheers,

On some wiring installs you would need to isolate the heating element. If you don't you can be reading back through other parallel loads. Ammeter on each element is the fastest.
