What contractor could check the pit out …to make sure its not leaking
and the correct gas piping size and material has been used?

Determining the correct piping size is technically exhaustive and is beyond the scope of a home inspection. On stuff like that outside, I usually give it the sniff test and may whip out my gas detector if I think I smell an odor. Other than that, move on.
