It’s wrong. An appliance connector is to connect the appliance to the gas piping. It isn’t to be used in lieu of gas piping. Here’s a great article.

Definitely wrong as Joe mentioned. Looks like they used teflon on the connector which is wrong and using white teflon to gas pipe fitting is a no no as well. All around homeowner special.
