Default Gas fireplace

Wood burning fireplace converted to a gas fireplace. How often should flues be cleaned for buildup? It appearantly was not cleaned prior to the change over, but was wondering the information of how often nevertheless.

It should have been cleaned before conversion.

There should not be any build up from a gas log to warrant cleaning the flue
