Default Return Air Duct

I have seen some dirty ones---but I think this is the worst.

Good photo Charles. Was this duct disconnected or did you have to remove it to find this problem?

I like to stick my camera inside the return air ducts to get an idea of what their condition is. Grilles are pretty easy to remove
