Default Wall Mounted Gas Fireplace Vent

Hey Guys-

Are these okay? I'm seeing more of them on newer construction. I thought flues were suppose to terminate above the roof line. What makes this different than running the water heater flue out the side of the house?

Yes, it is okay if the manufacturer designed it to terminate out the side wall, it can terminate out the sidewall within those parameters.

Some water heater vents are designed to terminat out the sidewall also.

Direct vents are less sensitive than B vents to down drafting and often take in outside air through the same opening in a concentric vent system.
