I always recommend CO detectors in homes without them.

In fact they are now required in Minnesota even on used construction.

Another option would be to make the window in question non-operable by securing it from opening.

I would also label it as "not to be opened" but that's just me.

As a snyde crack from the peanut gallery. How may people open their windows when operating the furnace...LOL

Besides, CO is 40% heavier than air anyway, and the vents are below the window...LOL

No kidding Mr. Snyde.

CO is not the only issue.

Enjoy your peanuts.

Here you go, Mark:

See page 32 for diagram and instructions. That's the only page I looked at since that's the page my source told me to tell you to look at.

I'll leave in on my web site through December 31, 2008.

Thank you all very much. And thank you Russel for getting a hold of that very hard to find document (I also got your PM ). It appears that the clearance is acceptable. I did make a recommendation that a CO meter be installed in that room. You guys are apparently so helpful I can't give you any more greenies until I spread them around some more.

It's in the form of a picture...easy enough to look at...but I know what you mean. Sometimes I don't want to go through the link either.

Oh the whining.

It was too large to post the page from the pdf.

See what I mean?

It was more than 12 inches below the window, and 12 inches above grade. So it was within the specified parameters.
