I agree with John. This is what I have always been taught by my Industrial Hygienist who is the top mold expert in my state. If you do not know what the mold is, you cannot determine the most effective way to remove it.

Plus, testing confirms the genus of mold which can be very helpful evaluating courses of action.

Good points!

What are your thoughts on the following?

"Although most amateur mould inspectors (especially “Certified Mould Inspectors”) perform mould “testing,” such “tests” are virtually always invalid and virtually never needed. The “tests” usually produce useless and meaningless “data.” Legitimate mould assessors rarely perform “testing” or sampling. Instead, proper indoor mould assessments can be performed on the basis of a visual inspection.
"
For many clients, it is believed to be necessary prior to purchasing a home. However, a mold test (or sampling) alone is useless.

I wouldn't hire a radon measurement service provider if they do not include a visual inspection of the property.

I wouldn't hire a certified mold inspection if the inspector does not also perform a visual inspection of the property according to a SOP.

A mold test alone is useless. A complete mold inspection is valuable for many clients who believe is it necessary to understanding and maintaining their good health. (I refer to the IAC2 Mold Inspection Standards of Practice. http://www.iac2.org/sop.php)
