Default Termite nest?

I m not sure what this is? could not get very close, I poked it with a stick, and it feels like very light paper

Ditto what Larry and Bill said. I hope you had a way to get out fast. Lady Luck was on your side on this one. 10,000 hornets in your face could get ugly. On the positive side, there is a market for "dead" hornet nests, if they can be removed whole.
