Not much different than the basement shower of my childhood home.

We did use a shower curtain however.

Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin... in fact, many/most older homes in Agricultural areas that have basements... very common, indeed.

Looks more like a crawlspace to me.
I hope you called out that temp floor jack.

Probably rotted from all the humidity the midget taking a shower is causing.
