Default Bathtub faucet drip

I just bought a house and when I turn the handle to make the water come out of the shower water begins to leak from behind the tub faucet. The previous owner tried caulking it but that obviously did not work. Does anyone have any idea how to correct this?

Thanks
Greg

This message board isn't geared toward home repair but I would remove the tub spout and any trim rings to see what is going on.

A photo would help.

Agree with Michael, you will need to get a look behind the trim rings, possible leaking diveretor valve, riser, etc...
