Is this fitting appropriate for copper pipes? I found it on supply line to water heater.

A brass compression fitting would have been better.
Sweated fittings would have been best but the repair person was probably afraid they would burn the house down.Pretty close quarters to use a torch in. |

I do not like the steel strap on the copper pipe. That could cause corrosion.
