Home in Ontario is 60+ years old. Kitchen sink and laundry drain into this pit via ABS to aluminum downspout to a floor drain which is in 1/2 of the pit and the main clean out in the other. Comments?

Looks kind of like a homemade grease trap. Since it's homemade, I'd call it out to have a plumber look at it and make repair/upgrade recommendations. I can't imagine that ever being an compliant to any standards.

I can't imagine it would actually work, let alone overflow periodically...
