The hardnesss table in PPM is not how hardness is generally referred to.

BTW-There is very noticeable difference between 4 grains and 0 grains hardness.

Classification mg/l or ppm ____________grains/gal

___________Soft 0 - 17.1____________ 0 - 1
___________Slightly hard 17.1 - 60 ____1 - 3.5
___________Moderately hard 60 - 120 __3.5 - 7.0
___________Hard 120 - 180 __________7.0 - 10.5
___________Very Hard 180 & over _____10.5 & over
