In the interest of full disclosure, I used to work for Ecowater when it was Lindsay over thirty years ago. My dad installed softeners for them for many years.

I have always had a softener installed in my homes as once you get used to 0 grain hardness water everything else feels different and scummy.

A lot of detergent is required to make hard water suds up. Soap will suds great in soft water but not at all in hard water.

I have a relative who spent several hundred dollars on the magic magnets and they wouldn't give him his money back.

He got to spend hundreds more for a real water conditioning system.

That's not the free testing I was speaking of anyway.

Just don't by the magnet systems that I see advertised again.
Trust me, most of those water testing companies are pure hard-core scammers. They show you how bad your water is so you will purchase their product.

You can pick up simple hardness test strips at several retailers.

I'm sue your right about many of the "free" test you water outfits.
They are there to sell their product which has a fat commission built in.
That by itself doesn't make them bad but I'm sure there are plenty of scammers.

I recently proved the water testing scam to my wife last year.

She made the appointment with a filter company, the gentleman showed up at our residence on-time and took two samples. 1 from my kitchen faucet and 1 from my well water. He placed them on my kitchen counter (with his back towards me) and started adding droplets of chemicals to the vials. He brought them over to me and showed me how dirty the well water is compared to the municipal water.

Then, I asked him why he didn't place the droplets into the vials in front of me so I could see the equal amounts being placed into the vials. He come up with this bullshi+ line..."Oh, I didn't think you wanted to see the actual testing being done". I told him that he was at my house to perform water testing and that he didn't think I wanted to see the actual testing. I then told him to leave, and that we were all set.

I then took a sample of my well water to my water testing lab the next day and it came out in flying colors. No negatives whatsoever.

I'll never trust a water testing company ever again.

David, no doubt, thee are scammers in every profession including ours.

I'm glad you booted the guy but him for him it's on to the next victim.

That's good advice on having your well water tested independently.

Independent testing is the ultimate fashion in getting accurate results of your drinking water immediately.

Stay away from the water filter companies who come to your residence in order to test your drinking water for you.
