Default Leak in copper, rerouting w/ plex

Please advise: Leak in copper inside slab. Contractor found leak with electronic device and reccomends rerouting through attic with plex and abandoning that run of pipe that is in slab and wall. My question is... should the abandoned pipe be caped to prevent termite intrusion. Any suggestions on any of this? The house belongs to a friend that wants some advice and you guys are the BEST.
Thanks
Rusty

I really don't know how termites act but for .50 cents I'd cut 'em off at the pass.
