Interesting...it says that PVC pipe is not damaged by UV/sunlight beyond the requirements specified in ASTM D 3034 for the manufacturer’s quality control of new pipe.

Can PVC pipe be exposed to the sun?
PVC does not readily degrade when exposed to sunlight (ultraviolet radiation) due to natural UV inhibitors present in the material. Short-term exposure to sunlight, such as during construction, is typically not a problem for PVC pipe. PVC piping may be used in outodoor applications when the piping system is painted with a light-colored water based acrylic or latex paint that is chemically compatible with PVC. When painted, the effects of UV exposure are significantly reduced.

That's an interesting study, I read many years ago, that PVC would degrade from exposure to UV rays, but the thing that made me believe it to be true was personal experience. I left some outside and it became very brittle, so brittle that it would crumble in my hands. if it wasn't the exposure to UV rays then I wonder what it was? Maybe all PVC did not have the UV inhibitors in it. I will see if I can find a piece of it laying around somewhere. Thanks for the links to the study. Ken
