Default Replace flex gas line connectors?

I am looking for a source that requires replacing a gas line connector when an appliance is replaced (for example a water heater). Some manufacturers state "do not reuse" on the tag. Does anyone have a reference to a standard or code that says gas line connectors must be replaced when the appliance is replaced?

Thanks

2006 IRC says:
Quote:
G2422.1.2 (411.1.3) Connector installation. Appliance fuel
connectors shall be installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s
instructions and Sections G24221.2.1 through
G2422.1.2.4.

Commentary - Flexible appliance fuel connectors are primarily intended
for use with cooking ranges, clothes dryers and
similar appliances where the gas connection is located
behind the appliance and some degree of flexibility is
necessary to facilitate the hook-up; however, flexible
connectors may be used with any appliance where
they are not subject to damage (see commentary, Section
G2422.1.1). Rigid connections are not practical
for movable appliances. Flexible connectors are typically
constructed of stainless steel and are labeled
with tags or metal rings placed over the tubing. The
manufacturer’s installation instructions dictate the installation
requirements that are intended to protect the
connector from damage and prevent leakage. Most
flexible connectors are intended to be installed only
once and are not designed for repeated bending and
forming. For other than commercial flexible connections
that are designed for repeated movement, a new
connector should be used each time an appliance is
reinstalled.
Repeated flexing or bending can cause
metal fatigue and connector failure. Flexible connectors
must be protected from physical damage and are
not allowed to pass through any walls, floors, ceilings
or appliance housings (see the exception to Section
G2422.1.2.3).

On another note, I write this condition up on gas connectors about 1/2 the time.

Quote:
WARNING - Do not use pipe thread sealant or Teflon tape on any flare ends because you will not obtain a leak-free seal. Keep flare end of fitting and flare seat of connector nut free of grease, oil, pipe thread sealant and Teflon tape.

We also recommend replacement of any Brass Flex lines as they have been recalled.
