Default Sewage pump venting

Does a basement sewage/grinder pump have to be vented?

Should be vented with a minimum 1-1/4-inch diameter vent pipe.

The cover for the pump should be tightly sealed (gas-tight)

All the ones I have seen have a opening in the lid for the vent. I've seen them vented out the side of the house and not always to the roof.
