Is my gas detector not calibrating correctly? I get a high gas reading whereever I put it. I tried it in my pantry and the red lights and alarm still go off. The pantry is about 10 feet from any gas line. I even tried it at the front foyer which is 15 to 20 feet away from any gas source. Any suggestions?

definately sounds like it's malfunctioning.
to be sure, take it outside and see what happens.

if it still does it out there, contact the manufacturer.

I "calibrate" my TIFF by breathing into it. I adjust the threshold to active at whatever my CO2 output is from my breath.

The sensor tip need to be replaced about every year or so of continuous usage.

What you are describing may indicate adjustment knob is dirty, bad or low charge batteries.

dchew: Blowing your meter is not the preferred method of calibration.
This activity may be illegal in some states.

In the past I have had problems with my tif rechargeable batteries holding a charge.

It was suggested that they had developed a “memory” and could no longer be fully charged.

SOLUTION:

Remove both discharged batteries from the detector

Place on a sheet of tin foil side by side with the poles opposite

With leather or other type of protective gloves tightly package the battery pair so foil contacts all 4 poles

Allow 5 minutes to 30 minutes to pass depending on the cell charge left

Foil may be warm to hot BE CAREFUL when unwrapping, use the gloves

Allow to cool at room temp for 1 hour

Replace into tif detector for recharging, plug in charger for a full 24-hour charge before using your detector

Hopefully this will also work for you and your batteries will serve as if new
