Is there potential for the TPR valve to not operate correctly with the stem being tight against the drywall like this? Or will the spring mechanism still function correctly? Thanks

It won't work. The TPR valve stem has to be able to move outwards.

Is it in a garage? Because the plumber just broke the firewall if it is by putting a hole in the drywall. He must be from here!!!
