You wonder how the building is still standing, with nicely sloped floors! Same building as previous crawlspace post.

You sure about that 1900's date? In my area, that would date mid to late 1800's, typically 1880's. Just curious, as I find it interesting the migration of materials and techniques across the country over the years.

John, remember, you're not doing a code inspection. The building is still standing. It's fine! Just needs some paint.

Yeah, paint the telescoping columns. I took 376 photos during the inspection of this 3 apartment building. The living conditions were not good.

I've seen better basements than that in houses dating to 1820s!!!
