Do the double joists need double studs even though alot of the load is being transferred to the parallam beam?

Hi. Richard, I don't see a problem there, but I don't really know what it is picking up for a load also.
It appears more to be Microllam's (LVL) in lieu of Parallams, and about 1-3/4" x 11-7/8" . This link here might help you. http://rds.yahoo.com/_ylt=A0geu8IPal...re/TJ-9000.pdf It just looks like quite a span for the middle beam from the pictures, but there again, can't see what kind of load it is picking up. Hope this helps a bit. LEED Green Associates InachiAwardsPortal: Inachi US Member of the Year Award 2009 |

Richard, you may want to find out why it appears in the picture to have a purlin and strut bracings that are cut off.
Only noticed that by blowing up the picture 200%. Like I said before, difficult to see what kind of loading is on those LVL's. Might want to recommend a qualified framing contractor to repair. LEED Green Associates InachiAwardsPortal: Inachi US Member of the Year Award 2009 |

Always call for the beams to be vertically supported along their full width.

Richard , I agree with John you need additional studs under the double joists which is now a beam. When those were doubled up they should have had ply and glue in between to help prevent deflection. (can't tell in the pic if they did that) they were doubled up to be able to brace roof off of them. But as Marcel says it looks like they cut the braces (good eye). Do you have other pictures , up higher of the attic area? Curious about the cut braces. Also is this a detached garage. There's no Sheetrock, did they have a sheetrock seperation to the living area of house if it is attached?
