Default Alkali and efflouresence in crawl space

I'm looking for some information concerning a large amount of Alkali dust in a crawl space, which also contains the Natural Gas forced air furnace. There is a plastic vapor barrier installed, however, it is in poor condition in many areas. There is alkali on top of the vapor barrier and also under the vapor barrier. There is no Ventilation in the crawl space. It appear that there has been water on top of the plastic in the past. My concern is the dust being sucked into the forced air furnace and any health issues with a large amount of alkali dust.
