5 injured in Montreal balcony collapse
POSTMEDIA NEWS NOVEMBER 27, 2011 "MONTREAL — Five people in their 20s were hospitalized with leg injuries after the balcony they were standing on collapsed in Montreal Saturday night. On Sunday morning, all the injured were listed in stable condition. The incident took place during a party in a first-floor apartment about 11 p.m. Saturday, Montreal police Const. Olivier Lapointe said. The floor of the balcony gave way while six people were on it and the occupants fell about the height of a storey, or “a couple of metres,” to the ground, Lapointe said. Police checked to see if there was any possibility of negligence on the part of the landlord, but they found that a building inspector had recently checked the structure so the incident is being considered as accidental.
