Default CA Basements

We don't find many basements in CA. Maybe we just don't understand how to build them. . .

30 inches was the access to the stairs (if you could call them "stairs").

Geeze,

They give a Californian a basement and they can't even figure out how to properly support a building.

I'll take a basement over a nasty crawlspace anyday. It is very nice to be able to walk around and have a good look at floor structure and mechanical systems. No banging of head etc. although some I have been into are just as nasty as some crawl spaces. Crawls around here are usually equipped with concrete floors so no snakes and such.
