Well, we sure have discussed a block pier to death by now and no matter if it looks like this cement-block-girder-support-pierandbeam-curtesy-apa.jpg or not, unless there are signs of sagging, breaking of the pier, I would probably leave it alone and just mention that the pier would be better if it were capped with full bearing pressure treated lumber to utilize the full capacity of the hollow block.

Now hope we can put this one to sleep.

I may be wrong, but this won't be the first time. Remember the definition of experience. (a whole bunch of mistakes, and I have a lot of that.)

I just thought it was funny that you posted a code section that directly contradicted your pier orientation and snap theory, without rethinking your position or finding some other industry standards or documentation to support it ... which don't exist.

I don't think Marcel will be here to save the day for you, as he seems to be on board now with the rest of us that the pier cap is the real issue, not orientation.

Marcel is a very sharp builder and inspector, and I have a lot of respect for him. We are both pretty set in our opinions, but through meaningful debate can still learn from each other over the many years we have both been on this board.

Nice picture Marcel does this come from one of your inspections or a build you were on?
I would think that the tops of these were filled with concrete.
Here are some more pictures to stretch out this discussion on proper orientation. I am hoping to hit all time high of 1000 posts. Don't quit now Robbert O you are on a roll.

Looks like the ones in the worst condition are running parallel to the beams ...
