Moisture in the walls from stack effect! This type of home is like a tall chimney and if there is any air coming in on the bottom it will go up through the wall cavity out the top. Check all the base design to see any signs of staining on the drywall or wood and test for moisture if you have a contact moisture meter. If they have a central located Wood Stove check for double wall chimney vent and connections at the ceiling line.
