When chimneys have a steep angle like the above, you'll find they typically have a short fire box. They are not designed for wood, but coal(which burns without a large flame). Myself and two other firefighters tried to save a 1700's farm home who's owner thought a big wood fire on Christmas would be cool. Had they had one smoke detector, they might had realized there was fire everywhere, before going to sleep.

Leaning chimneys. If a chimney begins to lean away from the house, a professional should be consulted to identify the source of the problem. Depending on the cause and severity of the lean, the chimney may need to be rebuilt or to be reinforced by steel piers in the ground.
