Default Maybe he was a locomotive engineer

Because I don't think this deck was engineered by a structural engineer.

Main Glu-lam against the ext. wall breaks in the center. Bolted to wall logs every 3 ft. with 1/2 through bolts.
2 posts bear on 6x6 shorty beams which bear on 2 floor joist cantelever logs (sound wood even though one looks dark).

45 degree double joists held with nails only. funky brackets on the log joists (most anyway).

Living space above had a stone chimney in it.

Check out the decay in the flyaways at the corner.

That bottom log that looks so bad was sound wood under the center of the corner. I was surprised.
