Default Notched joist

Would this be considered a defect?

I suppose caulking the void will help shore things up.....

Yes... lead pipe was outlawed years ago!

This joist was severed in two areas, one to run heating ducts and one to run plumbing waste line. The bathroom floor above was 'sagging' a bit.
