Default sap on roof rafters

Have you ever noticed dried sap on roof rafters? It has been suggested to me that this is caused by high temps in the attic. The high temperature draws out the sap from the wood. The higher the temp in the attic the more sap is found on the wood. Has anyone heard of this? Is this an old inspector tale?

pretty common occurance. if you feel that it is excessive you may want too look for a mill grade stamp on one or more of the members. if the grade stamp is there you know that at the time of milling that the moisture content was <19% if grade stamps are not visable you may want to use your moisture meter just to cover yourself
