Pic #1.....See dimpled membrane?
Pic #3 ....No hydraulic cement to seal gaps where lines enter, little if-any asphalt, apply thick asphalt not blcccttt thin spray-on damproofing, sheesh http://www.mcphersonpainting.com/prep.htm See THIS crap ALL the time, where`s the builders brain and how can shtt like this get passed by city inspectors, where is their brain....huh? Gotta seal shtt up man....DIRECTLY. -a dimpled membrane doesn`t seal/waterproof gaps `n cracks -raising `n sloping the STUUUUUPID grade doesn`t seal shtt up -extending downspouts 4 MILES away from house/building doesn`t seal shtt up. -mudjacking slabs doesn`t seal shtt up -interior drain tile systems doesn`t seal shtt up -painting the inside walls doesn`t seal shtt up Howard Cosell, down goes Frazier! down goes Frazier! down goes Frazier! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gfr5MXl8llI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8XsxosRPV4 Freddie `n Queen 'it`s so EASY....but i can`t do it, so risky, but i gotta chance it, so funny, there`s nothing to laugh about, my MONEY that`s all YOU wanna talk about,i can see....what, you want me to be... but i`m no fooooooooooooooooool, it`s in the lap of the Gods' Last edited by john bubber; 1/14/08 at 4:43 AM.. |

Well, one can wonder what kind of 'deal' was prolly agreed to-
one of those 'you scratch my back i`ll scratch yours' $$$$$$$ -Reinforcer offers InterNACHI member discount.... 'The Reinforcer will extend a $100 discount on a REFERRED customers first installation' hmmmmm. http://www.nachi.org/reinforcer.htm Do i have this right Mr Nick? Huh? Hi`s are referring carbon fiber strips to homeowners when they have cracks/bowed wall? What about water-moisture intrusion THROUGH the cracks on the OUTSIDE of block wall? The wall(s) are....CRACKED! What, raise the grade again? Longer downspouts? What about further DETERIORATION of the blocks,of mortar joints? Gotta stop water/moisture to stop further deterioration, thats accomplished on the outside, not inside. The same companies who install these straps mostly/only install INSIDE drain tile or baseboard systems, so this is what NACHI is recommending TO MOST HOMEOWNERS? A 2 part spending spree ...apply straps and if basement leaks have an inside system? What about the most-likely CAUSE, most likely REASON to WHY the wall(s) are cracked, bowed in first place...huh? What, leave the expanding-contracting soil and/or roots and/or porch footing and/or drive-patio slabs on the outside of wall, don`t get rid of whats most likely causing the problem? Leave it there? No to worry about possibilities of wall deteriorating, mold, insects entering THROUGH the cracks that are....AHEM...STILL OPEN on outside. Hhahahahahaha!!! Why not ADD/give these FACTS to anyone reading yer article? I`d hope you would want buyers/sellers to have all facts instead of this PARTIAL view, guess SNOT. And WHY would a HI organization, consisting of many, not all members who aren`t experts on foundation work/leaky basements be recommending certain supposed foundation repairs done by certain supposed foundation experts? So, homeowner`s should take an HI`s recommendation on using carbon fiber straps versus an honest foundation/waterproofing expert? Blllchhhtttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt ttttttttttttttt! Last Pic... "painting the block wall after installation virtually conceals the Reinforcer strips". Thats great for potential buyers, shtt, i`d rather KNOW the wall was excavated, any soil pressure/roots etc was relieved, wall was WATERPROOFED than to be told how lovely the paint job looks and conceals the strips. Walls can,HAVE,WILL Bow in or cracks WIDEN.....inbetween steel beams, inbetween carbon strips when the CAUSE(s) aren`t addressed. No, not ALL the time, not every time....sometimes. http://www.nachi.org/reinforcer.htm 2nd para....the Reinforcer helps to eliminate expanding, shifting, cracking and bowing 'helps to eliminate'? 'helps'...and how much 'help' would engineer state? It DOESN`T Eliminate pressure`s on outside, Blccht. And again,it doesn`t waterproof the cracks on the outside, don`t care about that huh? 3rd para..'these strips are least intrusive and most effective'. Compared to what? least intrusive and most effective versus what? 'most cost efficient manner'.....well shtt, how much for 8-10+ straps AND an Inside drain tile system, gimmie a number please. Many will be sold an inside drain tile system with these straps! Add it up, how much? Versus excavating a wall, waterproofing it and backfilling it correctly. shtt, say a wall is 36', thats a one day job approx $3,200 ish Can hardly wait for some members wonderful responses, some have wanted my azz off this board for a LONG time lol Well, Mikey Holmes people kicked my HONEST azz off their board,i`ve lost tons of sleep over that and my hair has fallen out plus, my balls ache, HA!!!!!!!!!!!!! i gotta go take a big dump now lets see, when one clicks Reinforcer link and wants INFO on Reinforcer SPECS,Design and Analysis, can`t get shtt. Thin as a DIME huh, yeah. http://www.thereinforcer.com/pdf/Cha...ifications.pdf http://www.thereinforcer.com/pdf/Cha...20Analysis.pdf give us password please Last edited by john bubber; 1/16/08 at 6:07 AM.. |

And with finished basements they can`t inspect the basements walls. 2 of the MOST important parts of the house! I know Mr Duffy doesn`t pull this shtt. -Backfilling foundation walls
http://www.eng-tips.com/viewthread.c...=138572&page=1 ....pea fkg stone, not same crap, not 1/2 same crap.gravel is best but even gravel will most likely settle a little and we`ve seen sand continue to settle even after soaking it. http://www.infoforbuilding.com/Drain...h_grade_N.html 2nd para...foundation walls..."it can be EASILY damaged by the FORCE of dirt slamming against it OR by the WEIGHT of the excavation MACHINE if it gets too close to the foundation wall". Right on the money!!!!! And so many still use EQUIPMENT right along the house/walls to compact, not good. "If the fill around the foundation is not COMPACTED, it will invariably SETTLE...." Even if the soil is compacted its going to settle a bit more. Especially if they backfill w/same shtt soil that was excavated so,slabs could settle, brick pavers, bushes could settle as soil settles a bit more. Last edited by john bubber; 1/21/08 at 7:32 AM.. |

Injections? Permanent? No, so sorry.
Have said, tried to show that about 50% of all-injections will RE-LEAK ...yeppers. They`ll re-leak for several reasons, won`t get into em all Here`s some PIC`s of POURED -walls, cracks, leaky holes and attempts to repair them from INSIDE, by a contractor or builder. Got MILK? http://web.mac.com/deanteaster/spong...o_Gallery.html This guy does injections of poured wall cracks, some are better and actually care about what they do versus other companies who aren`t very good or don`t give a chtt or don`t take the time when doing injections. Point is.......about 50% of all injections RE-fkg-LEAK! Injections don`t take any pressure`s off exterior of wall, don`t provide excellent drainage along a wall, its why a few of us DON`T do `EM! Can they work sometimes? Do they come in handy sometimes, like under a porch? Yeah BUTT-ski...if/when a crack under a porch was caused by soil pressure agst the wall and/or, the footing agst- leaning on the wall then ya gotta REMOVE/lessen the dang CAUSE. If you don`t then its very possible the crack will widen, wall push in, injection RE-Leaks. Pic 1....see what he says/knows about those companies who place plastic or vinyl sheeting against a wall. See what quite a few homeowners DO have BEHIND this sheeting after Inside system was installed. Some will have MOLD, efflorescence, crack wideing or even wall pushing in. This sheeting HIDES/conceals these things. Couple pics.. see carbon fiber straps? Ummm, from viewing pics, imo there was NO need for these straps. Yeah yeah, sometimes hard to tell and see everything ya need to see but certainly doesn`t appear to be any bowing, wall movement that would call for need of straps. Most CAUSES of cracks widening, bowing are on the outside and its best to remove/lessen the causes/pressure from the dang outside. Doing anything on inside doen`t remove/lessen exterior pressures. Bentonite injections etc doesn`t do diddley either. http://www.wbay.com/Global/story.asp?S=1797522 HO has leaky crack, what can they do? CO. answers....they have TWO options..... First is a POLYURETHANE injection. They say it gives a COMPLETE Seal through-entire-crack,inside out. Then....THEY say...OOPS, we have found over TIME the urethane SHRINKS and the crack LEAKS again. Well which is it g dammmmittt! Hmmm, well common sense would say it isn`t much of an 'option'. One minute they say it gives a complete-seal and then it re-leaks. THEN option 2....they say they have a NEW Breakthrough method! The new repair method they say, eliminates messy, unreliable epoxy or urethane injections, how wonderful! They go on to say it`s PERMANENT and works every time. It does HUH? Have they used it for 10-20 years? They say its NEW. Hmmm.... 'permanent and works every time' eh? Well OK then, if THEY say so its gotta be true. Just like option one, complete seal right? AMAZINGLY....NO mention of another OPTION! Dumb azz. That would be exterior waterproofing of the stupid crack!!! G.C....since people from Poland are called 'Poles'....how come people from Holland aren`t called 'Holes'?

Amherst NY Bldg Dept
prepared by U.S.Army Corps of Engineers foundation movement, causative factors http://www.amherst.ny.us/pdf/buildin...S_section3.pdf among other things, 3.2.1 Symptoms, last paragraph 'Excessive lateral pressure can affect the overall integrity of a house...... ....like other major fractures, water and pests can easily enter the basement...' some Photos http://www.lrb.usace.army.mil/missio...rst/index.html using carbon fiber straps, wall anchors etc does not eliminate exterior soil pressure. When a block wall bows in there will be cracks on outside. Go ahead and place 1,500 carbon fiber straps on inside, cracks still OPEN outside. Allowing water to continue to enter through cracks, loose parging etc doesn`t exactly aid the structural integrity of the wall in coming months, years. http://www.postbulletin.com/newsmana...p?a=324782&z=2 -Looking for the cause Evidence shows a tremendous volume of rainwater got into the city`s sanitary sewer system.... The sewer system is supposed to be a closed system....rainwater got in and caused the system to overrun, which led to backups in at least 106 homes.. Water got into the sewers any number of ways--through leaky manholes, cracked pipes or improperly connected private drains Any of those pipes--public or private--can crack,be infiltrated by roots or develop leaky joints that grow to admit rainwater. One wonders how many of these HO`s,and others throughout country, get bs`d by inside waterdiverting co`s/salespeople when these long- heavy rains occur. Many have not,do not take TIME to determine/locate actual problem(s). Instead, many simply bs homeowners when called for estimates. 'Oh Mr & Mrs Navin Johnson, you have a hydrostatic problem that only our inside drain tile or baseboard system can solve' CHTT like dat! And some will add, tell homeowners 'Oh...that vertical crack you have is a result from this hydrostatic problem and you need our piers,carbon- straps, wall anchoring system soon...before your wall caves in!' One stinky-lousy,all-american,red-white and blue bclllhttt story. Never know where you`ll find good info
-Clarifying damp http://iafrica.com/diy/repairs/831187.htm Pic`s,scroll down a bit http://www.lrb.usace.army.mil/missio...rst/index.html Several inside fixes tried here.... pic 3. lateral pressure causing wall to bow in (pilasters failed to brace wall) http://www.amherst.ny.us/pdf/buildin...S_section3.pdf Foundation movement, causative factors suggests foundation movement may result from a wide range of factors which can include: 1.compression of a soft layer.... 2.shrinkage and swelling of clays... 3.soil softening 4.compression of filled ground 5.frost heave 6.variations in groundwater level 7.erosion 8.nearby construction or excavation 9.chemical attack on foundations 10.collapse of mine workings... 11.vibration 3.2 Lateral Wall Pressure Four sources likely contribute to lateral pressures on basement walls in Amherst: 1.pressure from soil weight 2.pressure from soil swell 3.hydrostatic pressure 4.pressure from frost http://www.jensenengineers.com/FAQs.htm scroll down a bit Q. 5 Q- I called several contractors and each one proposed a different repair plan...WHY??? A) Repair contractors employ ESTIMATORS....using TITLES such as 'Certified Foundation Inspector' or 'Foundation specialist'........ Typically, these estimators will ONLY PROPOSE the type of repair the company regularly offers, IRRESPECTIVE of YOUR situation.....' Indeed they do, got MILK? House built on a slab is a tad different from a basement wall http://www.geodynamicsdfw.com/Archiv...n%20Repair.htm down to..... -ABOUT PIERS 'If a properly designed pier is founded in a stable strata (if) then the foundation cannot experience any further settlement, IN the AREA of the pier (settlement,NOT lateral soil pressure) However, if the pier is based in a bearing strata that is subject to MOVEMENT, then there is a potential for continued foundation movement since the pier itself may move. If this latter condition occurs, it usually occurs because the pier is based in the zone where the moisture content of the soil still varies from changes in climatic conditions (rain,no rain etc). Therefore, unless a pier is firmly placed in a stable bearing strata, then that pier has the potential to move as the soil expands and/or contracts.' Serinda Swan-Poker anybody? Got Milk? Basement Insulation, How Important is Basement Heat Loss?
http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/keep_heat_in/.../chapter_5.cfm ....'there is also a lot of air leakage through basement windows and penetrations, through cracks and at the top of the foundation wall' How to insulate outside of basement http://oee.nrcan.gc.ca/keep_heat_in/...hapter_5_1.cfm 1. Digging the trench --Never dig below the bottom of the footings the excavated dirt can be stored on a tarp....at least 24" away if it`s sand and you wanna save a lil cash and backfill the sand then keep it a looong way AWAY from the open trench. Sand is going to settle more than gravel so keep that in mind, installing pavers etc could settle in coming months as backfill settles. Do not leave trenches open any longer than absolutely necessary, don`t fk around, get the job done and get the fk out. What ya think will be BEHIND that wonderful membrane? Question, did the city inspector actually OK this? They say... 'homeowner has sooo many cracks'. Well, whats best for her, whats best for STOPPING water from fkkk`g entering the wall, whats best for RELIEVING lateral soil pressure, whats best for the NEXT homeowner would have been to remove the soil, yeah, haul the CHTT away, waterproof the wall(s) and backfill with gravel and NOT place goofy-stupid membrane CHTT on inside. Injections in cracks of poured basement walls
....Recap Add this link to other injections-links in posts #203 and 204, the Web-mac,Wbay and irb links http://www.wes.army.mil/REMR/pdf/cs/mr-3-9.pdf -Applications and Limitations 'Epoxy injection has been successfully used in the repair of cracks in buildings, bridges, dams and other types of concrete structures. HOWEVER, unless the crack is dormant (or the CAUSE of the cracking is REMOVED,thereby making the crack dormant), it will probably RECUR, possibly somewhere else in the structure...' That`s wonderful, just what most homeowners want to hear... or find out, especially the buyer. Permanent huh? Have it your way. The 'cause' is often the soil, lateral pressure. Roots can sometimes be a factor as can a porch-footing or driveway-patio slab(s). See Amherst NY link, or Fairfax county,Yoder,Vila links. In the Wbay link, the Inside fix Co yaps about how great their 2 injection options are, the 'NEW' method is supposedly PERMANENT, will never leak, thats wonderful! Web.mac link has pic`s of failed injections. irb link says pretty much same chtt as army link. Put it all together and the use of the word 'permanent' doesn`t exactly ring true now does it. "Works every time" huh? Blcchhtt! Just more false claims. Why can`t the rookies just speak the truth, sometimes it`ll work, last for awhile and sometimes it won`t,it could re-leak on next decent rain or two. It`ll cost ya around $350-600+ to try, find out. Keep those fingers crossed, don`t be eyeballing the hottie next door and, pray from time to time. Ok T Carter, give the world your expert basement waterproofing opinion on this one, can hardly wait. What? Just have homeowners put in your trench/french drain, right? Don`t waterproof the crack or loose parging right? Sell the house like that right? Don`t let that ego get in the way again, just answer the simple questions.
