I found this in a Townhome yesterday. Two 2x6 supporting the beam that was tied to a TJI floor joist with joist hanger. There was about 6 floor joist tied into the beam that connected to the TJI. Would you call this out as a typical install?

Why not? The loads from the ends of the beam are being directly transmitted to the floor below, assuming the floor is capable of supporting such loads. Nothing is being carried on the composite joist.
