Is this supposed to be caulked?

I’m trying my hardest to think back over the hundreds of basement dewatering systems that I have seen, and I can’t remember one which was caulked on the top side. I am pretty sure I have even seen this system before and I don’t remember it being caulked at the top edge. All the other systems leave the top edge open so moisture can drain in if necessary. Also the caulking is pretty rough and I doubt was done by a professional.

Any thoughts?

my thoughts…inside systems suck…save money and agravation have it fixed properly on the outside and be done with it…

Agree with Jim…

Were there additional problems, aside from the caulk, Cameron?

No, this system has been around for a while and there was only very minor staining on some of the mortar joints in a couple corners. I’m tempted to not say anything because really this is an amenity.

At the Interior…
It is a “water collection system”
not a “waterproofing system”

that is worth repeating
and it doesn’t stop the damage being done to the walls…

Did someone say waterproofing?

my concern would have little to do with a caulk bead at the top perimeter of the installed interior drainage system…

That’s obvious since you and no one is answering the question. It’s a curiosity at best but one worth figuring out to me.
