Tie into existing structure

The attached pictures were taken from inside the attic storage space over an area that was added onto the home 10 years after it was built. I’ve never seen an addition where the ridge beam and first rafter weren’t physically tied to the existing structure. Does this seem right to anyone else? I could actually see some light coming through between that small gap between the rafter and the side of the house about 6 ft down that roof from the ridge where the flashing should be on the opposite side. However, no signs of leaks anywhere.
